How to be successful in 2021

Hello there!

Happy new year to you all. To ensure that this year is successful, it is important to start strong. However, I realize that while many people have goals they want to accomplish in a new year, many fail to accomplish them. It is not for the lack of trying, but usually because there is no plan in place. I must confess that the latter often applies to me. This year I have made up my mind to be more intentional about accomplishing my goals and here are three things I am working on:

Have a plan

There is a quote that says “failing to plan is planning to plan”. Frankly speaking, it is the truth. One cannot expect to have a goal accomplished without having a plan in place. Imagine wanting to build a house without having a blueprint and itemizing what it would cost to build it.

I read a quote from a devotional which says “One does not start planning for new year in the new year”. Honestly, after reading that quote, I was convicted. I knew that I had to do better if I wanted to be successful in 2021. With that said, I started writing out my plans for 2021 in Q4 of 2020. I itemized the types of content I wanted to create for each month and also put in place the tools that will help to create these content.

Create tasks for your plan

Having a plan is usually the first step. However, if there are no actionable items to complete, daily, weekly or on a monthly basis, the plan won’t work.

As a new blogger, my goal is to increase traffic to my blog and social media pages. I have learned that if I want to be successful, I need to be consistent with content creation. This means ensuring that I have to post consistently either on my blog or on my social handles.

The wonderful thing about the tech age is that there are tools to help anyone become successful, so utilize them. For me I have access to scheduling apps that can help me to schedule posts for the week. Additionally, I have itemized the types of content I want to share for the month. This makes it easy to create tasks to work on the content for each week.

Execute

A lot of us often fall short of reaching our goals because of failing to put in the work. There is no point in planning a fishing trip, getting to the fishing destination and not casting in the fishing net for a catch.

Execution is the work that will bring forth a result and failing to put in the work is laziness. The bible references the lazy person in proverbs 21:25 by stating: “The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labour.”

To be successful in 2021, one has to put in the work. I have reminded myself that I cannot ask God to bless the work of my hands if I have not done any work. As we start 2021, I want to encourage you that there are opportunities everywhere. However, those that will benefit from these opportunities are those who are ready to do what it takes to be successful. Cheers to a wonderful 2021.
